This is the first instalment of Ellen\u2019s Positive Notes<\/a>, a weekly column by Ellen Bessner designed to lighten the mood during tough times.<\/i><\/p>\n

What a week.<\/p>\n

I may be the last person you want to hear from, but I have a bit of practical advice for you: Call your clients.<\/p>\n

Some advisors may avoid their clients when there\u2019s this much bad news. Please, do not<\/em> be that advisor.<\/p>\n

When your clients ask their friends if they\u2019ve heard from their advisors, the answer will often be no. But clients need you the most when markets are tough \u2014 and everything is tough now. Calling your clients will help you stand out from the crowd.<\/p>\n

Of course, calling your clients may be easier said than done. What do you say to them? Here is a list of ideas:<\/p>\n

1.<\/strong> How are you?<\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> How is your family?<\/p>\n

3.<\/strong> I am just checking in to make sure everyone is okay.<\/p>\n

4.<\/strong> I know you must be worrying about, well, just about everything.<\/p>\n

5.<\/strong> Yes, I know Trump is saying this will likely go on for months.<\/p>\n

6.<\/strong> Here are some bright things to think about:<\/p>\n
