State Street Global Advisors, a subsidiary of Boston-based State Street Corp., has named Peter Lindley as president and head of investments for SSGA in Canada. Reporting to James Kase, head of global sales and marketing for SSGA, Lindley will oversee the development of new investment strategies by working with other product groups. Lindley has been with SSGA since 2005, and previously was head of investments and fixed-income. Prior to SSGA, Lindley co-headed the global markets division for Toronto-based Deutsche Bank Canada.
Change at Citi Private Bank
Citi Private Bank, Toronto-based subsidiary of New York-based Citigroup Inc., has named Susanne Alexandor as its director and private banker. Alexandor reports to Robert McGuire, Canada regional executive for Citi Private Bank. She will deliver a variety of wealth-management and investment services to ultra-high net-worth clients. Recruiting Alexandor is a part of Citi Private Bank’s strategy to expand its Canadian franchise in the high net-worth sector. Previously, Alexandor was senior portfolio manager and investment strategist for Toronto-based UBS Securities Canada Inc. Before UBS, Alexandor gained experience in economic research and institutional asset management with Deutsche Bank in London and New York.
Quebec advisor awards
Montreal-based Finance et Investissement has named Réjean Robitaille as its 2009 Quebec Financial Person of the Year. Robitaille, CEO of Montreal-based Laurentian Bank of Canada, headed the list of top 25 financial and economic newsmakers for the year as a result of his long-term approach to leadership and his ability to realign Laurentian’s business operations during the recent economic downturn. Chosen by a jury of reporters and editors from FI and Montreal-based Les Affaires, the top 25 newsmakers were profiled in a special section in FI’s February issue. Yves Guillot, business development manager for Quebec-based MICA cabinets de services financiers in its Outaouais, Que., office, was recognized as Advisor Emeritus, an award given to advisors with more than 25 years experience in the profession who demonstrate excellence. Louis Roberge, vice president of Montreal-based Demers Valeurs Mobilières, was named Advisor Most Involved in the Community. Spreading the word on ETFs
Howard Atkinson, president of Toronto-based Horizons Exchange Traded Funds Inc., has received the Top Educator award, given by ACTIF, a financial education co-operative based in St-Laurent, Que. Atkinson was recognized for his efforts to increase financial literacy among Quebec investors and financial professionals, specifically on the use of ETFs. Atkinson had developed Horizons ETF University, a full-day course to educate advisors on the use and history of ETFs. Atkinson also wrote the book The New Investment Frontier: A Guide to Exchange Traded Funds for Canadians.
