The Bank of Canada has announced that Lawrence L. Schembri will be its new deputy governor. He will replace Jean Boivin. Canada’s central bank had been looking for someone to succeed Boivin, who was appointed as a federal associate deputy minister of finance late last year. Schembri joined the Bank of Canada in 1997 as a visiting research advisor in the international department. He was appointed research director in 2001. In 2005, Schembri became chief of the bank’s international economic analysis department. Since 2010, he had served as an advisor to the bank’s departing governor, Mark Carney, with a special focus on the bank’s contributions to the Financial Stability Board.
