According to the 11th annual Credit Union Community Involvement Survey, Canadian credit unions’ donations of their time, money and resources increased by 10% in 2011 vs the year prior. Collectively, credit unions contributed $41.4 million to their communities last year. Almost $31.4 million was contributed through donations and sponsorships; $2.2 million each went to charitable foundations and donations in kind; $1 million went to scholarships and bursaries; and $4.6 million was contributed through the reduction or waiving of charges to clients.
