Toronto-based Fairway Advisors Inc. has filed a preliminary prospectus for Long Reserve Life Resource Fund. The closed-end fund will invest in a range of commodities, including oil and gas, base metals, precious metals, coal and uranium. “We think of this fund as a single solution for retail investors looking for exposure to a wide range of commodities,” says CEO Andrew McKay. Weightings in each commodity will be reallocated annually, according to the manager’s confidence in each issuer’s reserve life (the proven reserves of an issuer divided by its annual production). All fund holdings will have market capitalizations greater than $500 million and will be listed on major exchanges in Canada, the U.S., Britain or South Africa. Front-end commissions are 5%, with a 0.40% trailer, paid quarterly. Management fees are 1.10%; minimum investment is $1,000.
