SciVest Alternative Strategies Inc. launched five new funds aimed at investors looking for risk-managed products. They are: SciVest Oil Sands Index PLUS Fund, SciVest Income Portfolio PLUS Fund, SciVest Commodity Index PLUS Fund, SciVest Asia Pacific Long-Short Equity Fund and SciVest Aggressive Market-Neutral Equity Fund. “Our core strategy is market-
neutral, and that strategy doesn’t make any bets on the market and won’t be affected by market movement,” says Lily Van, president of Toronto-based SciVest. She adds that the oilsands fund is a pure oilsands play, but the risk is offset by an overlay strategy that links the firm’s market-neutral equity trading strategy to the oilsands sector index, developed by Calgary-based Sustainable Wealth Management. “We like the growth story of the oilsands, and we think it is going to be in the high-growth sector for the next decade,” Van says. Front-end commissions for all funds are 0%-5%, with a 1% trailer. Advisors will share part of a performance fee. Management fee is 2.25%, or 1.25% for F-class shares. Minimum investment is $150,000 for non-accredited investors, and $25,000 for accredited investors.
