Two new portfolio advisors have stepped in to manage three funds at TD Asset Management Inc. Vancouver-based Connor Clark & Lunn Investment Management Ltd. will take over management of TD Canadian Small-Cap Equity Fund, replacing TDAM. CC&L, which currently manages $18.2 billion for Canadian investors, uses top-down research with bottom-up security selection. “We have a fairly open architecture involving both internal and external managers, and we are always looking for the best in the industry,” says Charles Schulz, vice president and managing director of TDAM in Toronto. “We thought we could generate strong performance by going with an external manager.” TD Asian Growth Fund and TD Pacific Rim Fund (formerly TD Asia Growth RRSP Fund) will move to Martin Currie Inc., a Scotland-based investment-management company. The move follows consolidation of TDAM ’s international investment team with the Toronto management team. “Asia isn’t a core area for us here [in Toronto], so we thought a firm with a great track record in a fairly specialized area would be best,” Schulz says. Martin Currie replaces TDAM.
