Toronto-based Mackenzie Financial Corp. has formed a new team that will focus on emerging markets. The Mackenzie global emerging markets team, based in Singapore, will be led by Jan Cornelis de Bruijn, senior vice president, investment management, who joined the firm on Sept. 1. In conjunction with this announcement, Mackenzie Investments is proposing to change the investment objectives of Mackenzie Cundill Emerging Markets Class Fund, subject to unitholder approval. The change involves broadening the investment objectives of the existing fund in order to expand beyond its current focus. A special meeting of fund unitholders is scheduled for Nov. 19. Pending unitholder approval of the changes in objectives, Mackenzie will implement the following: the Mackenzie global emerging markets team will assume portfolio-management responsibility; the fund will be renamed Mackenzie Emerging Markets Opportunities Class Fund; and management fees for certain series of the fund will be reduced.
