Staying in touch with clients on a fun and personal level will be rewarding for both you and your clients, says Bev Evans, investment advisor with Richardson GMP Ltd. in Mississauga, Ont.

Evans, whose client base consists largely of retirees, makes a point of staying in touch with clients on a monthly basis with an e-newsletter.

“I think today we really underestimate what our senior clients can do when it comes to technology,” she says. “Many of them are even asking for more access online.”

All but 12 of her 75 client families have Internet access, and Evans is sure to mail a paper copy of her newsletters to those “offline” clients.

While Evans wants her newsletter to be informative, she also wants it to be a personal connection with her clients. This past summer, she sent instalments of a travel blog to her clients, documenting her RV road trip to Newfoundland she took with her husband.

“My husband and I are huge outdoor enthusiasts,” Evans says. “I decided that it would be great to blog from the road and send out an online photo album.” — CLARE O’HARA
