U.S. consumers’ attitudes improved significantly at the end of April as war fears melted away.

According to reports, the University of Michigan’s full-month index on consumer sentiment moved to 86 as of the end of April, from 83.2 in mid-April and 77.6 in March. Analysts had forecast the sentiment index would rise to 84.

The two components comprising of the index were both stronger. The index for consumer expectations was rose to 79.3 as of April’s end, from 75.7 in the middle of the month and 69.6 at the end of March.

Meanwhile, the final current conditions index for April increased to 96.4. It was 94.8 in the middle of the month, up from 90 in March.
