A technical glitch on the Toronto Stock Exchange Wednesday morning that affected trading in a number of stocks has been resolved, says the operator of Canada’s largest stock market.

A data outage early in the day had affected ticker symbols beginning with letters M to Z, leaving traders without up-to-date information on the stock prices after the market opened at 9:30 a.m. ET.

“Our initial investigation indicated that a problem occurred as the market moved from the pre-open session to the market opening,” the TMX Group (TSX:X) said in a statement.

The unspecified problem was corrected and stocks were moved into a pre-open period at 11 a.m., then resumed trading at 11:15 a.m., the company said.

TMX noted that its alternative trading system TMX Select functioned normally throughout the period.

“TMX Group regrets this unfortunate and rare disruption to our normal market operations and the inconvenience this caused our customers,” chief executive Tom Kloet said in a statement.

“Technical and market operations teams went into action immediately, focusing on restoring the market to full operational performance as rapidly as possible. We are continuing to investigate the root cause to ensure that the problem does not recur.”
