Canada’s main stock index moved lower but the Dow Jones industrial average closed above 27,000 for the first time.

The S&P/TSX composite index closed down 35.39 points at 16,527.90, with CannTrust Holdings Inc. continuing a string of declines since it disclosed some production was done in unlicensed growing rooms.

In New York, the Dow Jones rose 227.88 points at 27,088.08. The S&P 500 index was up 6.84 points at 2,999.91, while the Nasdaq composite was down 6.49 points at 8,196.04.

The Canadian dollar traded at an average of US76.51¢, up compared with Wednesday’s average of US76.38¢.

The August crude contract was down US23¢ at US$60.20 per barrel and the August natural gas contract was down US2.8¢ at US$2.42 per mmBTU.

The August gold contract was down US$5.80 at US$1,406.70 an ounce and the September copper contract was down US0.65¢ at US$2.69 a pound.
