The Toronto Stock Exchange released its 2020 TSX30 list of top-performing stocks on Tuesday, with Shopify Inc. leading the pack.
Technology and mining stocks were well represented in this year’s list, which ranks stocks based on dividend-adjusted share price appreciation over a three-year period.
Shopify recorded a 1,043% gain over three years, moving up from second place on last year’s list.
Fuel cell company Ballard Power Systems Inc. was next, up 459% over three years, and cannabis firm Cronos Group Inc. followed with a 378% gain. Gold miners Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. (363%) and Alacer Gold Corp. (349%) rounded out the top five.
Last year’s top performer, cannabis company Canopy Growth Corporation, slipped to the 18th position.
Specialty insurance provider Trisura Group Ltd. held the 16th position with a three-year gain of 182%, and alternative asset manager Sprott Inc. (up 143%) was number 24.
Real Matters Inc., a technology firm that provides services to the mortgage and insurance industries, was in the 22nd spot.
