Nasdaq CXC Ltd. (Nasdaq Canada) will begin operating as an exchange starting March 1, according to a recent notice from the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada.

With the launch of Nasdaq Canada as an exchange, the last day of trading on Nasdaq Alternative Trading System is Wednesday, Feb. 28.

Nasdaq Canada will initially offer trading in securities that are listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) and the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV) on each of its three trading books: CXC, CX2 and CXD.

It plans to add trading in the Canadian Securities Exchange’s (CSE) listings on April 2.

Order protection will apply to visible orders for TSX- and TSXV-listed securities on CXC and CX2, the IIROC notice says.

Nasdaq kickstarted its return to Canada with the acquisition of ATS, Chi-X Canada in 2015.
