Later today, in a tribute to Western Canadian heritage, an estimated 10,000 rodeo fans attending the Calgary Stampede in will join in ringing the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

This largest bell ringing in NYSE history will close the trading day in New York and simultaneously open the Stampede, which is expected to draw millions of visitors over the course of the 10-day event.

The event is scheduled for 16:00 ET.

A live half-hour simulcast from the infield of the Stampede Rodeo will bring West to East. NYSE executives, listed-company officials and other Stampede participants in Calgary will join via satellite special guest Pamela Wallin, Canada’s Consul General to New York and the entire trading floor community in New York.

As the bell ringers wave their cowboy hats down to signal to the start of the event, the world champion riding bull “Outlaw” will charge the field with a brave cowboy clinging to the bucking saddle.

The live webcast of events leading up to the special Closing Bell will begin at 15:20 ET.

The event will help the NYSE salute its 78 Canadian companies, in particular the 19 listed companies from Alberta.
