Canada’s unemployment rate slipped bit in September to 6.7%, from 6.8% in August, Statistics Canada reported today.

The agency said there were more jobs created in the information, culture, recreation and education sectors and more people found repair and maintenance jobs.

There were fewer people working in finance, insurance, real estate and leasing.

There were also job losses in some support sectors and manufacturing.

However, the overall jobless rate was at one of its lowest levels in 30 years, with 135,000 additional jobs created so far this year.

Employment was unchanged in September, leaving total gains during the third quarter at 31,000. This was lower than the second quarter job growth of 0.5%.

Youth unemployment was the one dark spot in September, rising half a percentage point to 12.7%.
