Technical problems with the Toronto Stock Exchange’s data feeds halted trading on both the TSX and the TSX Venture Exchange on Wednesday, and TMX Group said trading would not resume throughout the rest of the day.

TMX Group said that since the data feeds provide information to investors to guide their trading decisions, trading was halted to ensure market integrity.

There are no technical issues with the TSX Quantum trading engine, the company added.

The market will be put into a “pre-open” state from 15:00 to 17:00 ET to allow participants the option of cancelling, adding or changing orders.

The company intends to open the exchanges Thursday morning.

TMX Group said it would provide additional information on the nature of the problem when the investigation is complete.
