The federal government launched consultations Friday on a proposed program that aims to improve tax compliance by small business.
The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) launched the first of several consultation sessions on the proposed Registration of Tax Preparers Program (RTPP) in Vancouver on Friday.
The CRA is hosting consultations with tax preparers and organizations that represent them throughout February. Future sessions will be held in Halifax, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Calgary, and Vancouver; and, the CRA will accept input until May.
The proposed RTPP is part of a recently announced three-point plan to help small and medium-sized businesses comply with tax rules and reduce red tape. The consultations aim to solicit the views of the tax preparer community on the plan.
Feedback either through the consultations, or online, is also welcome from taxpayers and others with an interest in the subject.
“The goal of our recently announced three-point plan is to make compliance easy for businesses that want to comply, and to make non-compliance difficult for those that choose not to comply,” said the minister of national revenue, Kerry-Lynne Findlay, “Over the next few weeks, we want to hear from our stakeholders to better understand their business needs, and to ensure the proposed RTPP achieves this goal.”
