Consumer confidence in Canada has regained ground lost late in the summer, increasing three points to 121.8, according to a report from the Conference Board of Canada.
“Increased optimism regarding future job prospects was the main driver behind the increase,” said Peter Hall, director of Economic Forecasting.
When asked what they felt the job situation would be six months from now, 18.9% of respondents said they felt it would improve — an increase from 16.9% in the August survey.
Consumer willingness to spend remained high in September, with 59.1% of survey participants responding that the present was a good time to make a major purchase such as a car or home.
The survey was conducted during a five-day period starting September 11. The latest results are based on more than 2,000 telephone interviews.
