The Canadian Investment Funds Standards Committee (CIFSC) said Thursday that Reid Baker, manager, analytics and data at Fundata Canada Inc., has been elected as chairman for the coming year, effective Jan. 1.
Brian Bridger, director, analytics and data at Fundata Canada will remain the committee’s vice chairman.
The CIFSC consists of representatives from leading Canadian investment fund data publishing and analysis firms, consultants and other industry participants (excluding fund managers and distributors) who build and maintain the leading Canadian standardized investment fund category system used by investors, advisors, institutions, and media channels across Canada. It oversees the system, regularly monitoring the classification scheme to make adjustments when necessary, with input from national industry participants.
“With the Canadian fund industry at well over $1 trillion in assets under management, the work of the Canadian Investment Funds Standards Committee in setting, applying, and maintaining rigorous, objective category standards is more important than ever,” said Baker, in a news release. “I look forward to working with all committee participants in the coming year as we build on a productive 2014,” he added.
The CIFSC’s current membership includes representatives from the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association (CLHIA), Cannex Financial Exchanges, Fundata Canada, Morningstar Canada, the Investment Funds Institute of Canada (IFIC), Thomson Reuters/Lipper, Canadian ETF Association, and individual consultants.
