David Wolf has left RBC Capital Markets and joined Merrill Lynch & Co. as its top Canadian economist.

Wolf, 29, who according to reports began his new position this week, replaces Robert Spector, who took a job earlier this year at fund manager McLean Budden Ltd. RBC Capital is an arm of Royal Bank of Canada, the country’s biggest bank by assets.

Wolf also will be Merrill’s chief strategist in Canada and report to David Rosenberg, Merrill’s chief North American economist in New York.
