Acting commissioner of the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada (FCAC), Lucie Tedesco, has now been appointed commissioner of the oversight agency.
Tedesco, who was deputy commissioner of the FCAC since 2008, has been acting in the role of commissioner since June.
The Department of Finance, which announced the move, notes that her appointment coincides with its renewed focus on financial literacy for seniors. “I look forward to the evolution of FCAC’s work in light of these new priorities,” said Finance minster, Jim Flaherty.
“I know we can continue to rely upon FCAC to provide leadership, coordination and essential services in the area of financial literacy for Canadians, in addition to engaging senior management of financial institutions to ensure consumers’ interests are protected.”
Prior to joining the FCAC, Tedesco was vice president, strategy & planning in the insurance group at Export Development Canada (EDC), which she first joined in 2000. She began her career in private practice with Burke-Robertson, Chadwick and Ritchie, and also worked at both Metropolitan Life and Clarica.
