Sun Life Financial Inc. has established a special campaign to support South Asia tsunami relief efforts, contributing $500,000 to be used to match donations from employees and members of the Clarica sales force.

This fund is in addition to the $100,000 Sun Life Financial is donating to the Canadian Red Cross South Asia Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund.

“We’ve set up this special campaign in response to employees and advisors who have expressed a desire to help those who have been affected. Our goal is to increase the impact of this support for the relief effort by matching their donations,” says Donald Stewart, Sun Life CEO.

Through the campaign, Sun Life will match donations its employees in Canada and the U.S. and members of the Clarica sales force make to a number of organizations working to provide relief in areas affected by the earthquake and tsunami.

Sun Life has business in India and Indonesia, two countries heavily impacted by the disaster. However, the company says it is not aware of any death or injuries to its employees or employees of its joint venture partners, and hasn’t experienced any significant business interruption.
