Bank of Nova Scotia President and CEO Rick Waugh today announced two senior executive appointments.
Barb Mason has been appointed to the position of executive vp, wealth management, effective immediately.
Jane Rowe has been appointed to the position of executive vp, domestic personal lending and insurance, and president and CEO, Scotia Mortgage Corp., effective immediately.
In her new role, Mason will be responsible for continuing to grow Scotiabank’s wealth management franchise, which incorporates the key personal investment and advisory activities within the bank’s domestic operations, including brokerage, retail investments and private client services. Mason is currently executive vp, marketing, sales and service.
“Wealth Management is a key area of growth for Scotiabank,” said Waugh. “Barb’s proven expertise and leadership in database driven marketing, customer segmentation and product design on savings and deposit products and services, will be invaluable in achieving our strategic priorities of capturing a greater share of current clients’ business while adding new customers through our multiple delivery channels.”
Mason, who joined Scotiabank in 1982, was appointed senior vp, retail marketing in 1995. She graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Honours) and is also a graduate of the Queen’s University Executive Program. She is a board member with the Toronto Board of Trade and Ronald McDonald House.
Mason replaces Chris Hodgson, who was recently appointed executive vp, head of domestic personal banking. Mason will report to Hodgson.
In her new role, Rowe will be responsible for consumer, small business and commercial automotive lending. This includes mortgages, credit cards, retail loans, automotive finance and indirect lending, as well as the Dealer Finance Centres; risk management; and integrated business solutions. She will also have responsibility for domestic insurance services, including creditor insurance. Currently, Rowe is president and CEO, Roynat Capital, a member of the Scotiabank Group and Canada’s leading merchant bank specializing in innovative capital and business solutions for mid-sized companies.

Rowe joined Scotiabank in 1987 and progressed through various positions including corporate finance, loan audit, private equity and risk management. She holds an MBA from York University and a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) from Memorial University of Newfoundland. She sits on the External Advisory Board for the University of Guelph Centre for Studies in Leadership, as well as the Board of Directors for Sierra Wireless Corporation.
Rowe replaces Alberta Cefis, who was recently appointed executive vp and group head, global transaction banking. Rowe will also report to Hodgson.
