Richardson GMP Ltd. has appointed Gareth Watson to the role of vice president, investment management & research, the independent wealth management firm said Wednesday.

Watson will play a key role in helping to develop and communicate Richardson GMP’s core investment strategy platform.

Most recently, Watson held equity research roles with Scotia Capital Markets from 2001 to 2005. In 2005, he joined the Portfolio Advisory Group of Scotia McLeod with a focus on large cap Canadian equities. His responsibilities included developing sound investment strategies, presenting investment portfolio solutions, and assisting investment professionals across the country with their business development initiatives.

In addition to taking on the role of corporate spokesperson, Watson’s responsibilities will include analysis and insight into the market’s daily, weekly and monthly performance as well as recommendations for asset allocations of Richardson GMP’s Cornerstone Portfolios.

As a graduate with high distinction from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Watson received his Bachelor of Business Administration. He is a CFA Charter holder and member of the Toronto CFA Society.
