Randy Reynolds is the 2011 recipient of the Donald J. Johnson Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Profession of Financial Planning in Canada, the Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC) said Wednesday.

Reynolds is the sixth recipient of the award since its inception in 2006.

Reynolds’ career in the financial services industry spans over 45 years. Currently, he is the president of the Financial Advisors Brokerage (FAB) Group, a Vancouver-based financial planning, insurance and investment firm.

“The caliber of past recipients is exceptional, and I am honoured to become a member of this group. I am also proud to be recognized by FPSC at this sunset stage in my career as a financial planner,” says Reynolds.

“Randy embodies the spirit of the DJJ Award,” says Jim Kraft, chair, FPSC board of directors. “His service and contribution to the profession of financial planning over the years have made a tremendous difference and helped advance the profession.”

Reynolds will be formally presented with the award during Financial Planning Week (Oct. 17-23), at the FPSC-hosted Celebration of the Profession Reception, held on October 19 in Toronto.

Reynolds has requested that the $10,000 charitable donation that accompanies the award be given to the Biscuit Fund of the B.C. Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. The Biscuit Fund is a special fund used to provide urgent medical care to injured animals when no other financial options exist. Mr. Reynolds has been a director of the BC SPCA for 25 years and is a past president of the Vancouver SPCA.

In the nomination letters in support of Reynolds, the spirit and enthusiasm he brings to working life is consistently highlighted. “His excitement and optimism is motivational and creates a ‘glass half full’ positivity in those he is in touch with,” said Alan P. Leader, CLU, Vancouver-based insurance advisor.

Reynolds recently completed a term as board member of the FPSC and is also past president of the B.C. Mainland Chapter of the Institute of Chartered Life Underwriters. He has served as a director on the local and national boards of Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada and was elected the National Chair of Advocis through 2004-2005.
