Steve Geist will be joining CIBC on July 26 as president of CIBC Asset Management Inc, responsible for overall retail mutual fund and managed solutions business.

The appointed was announced to CIBC employees today in a memo from Victor Dodig, executive vp, CIBC Wealth Management.

Geist brings to CIBC considerable senior-level experience managing all facets of a retail asset management platform. Between 2001 and 2005 he was president of TD Mutual Funds and was instrumental in TD’s rapid mutual fund business growth during that period. He has also held other roles at TD, Fidelity Investments Canada and PriceWaterhouse.

Geist will report to Dodig.

Ginny Macdonald, vp of CIBC Asset Management and Tom Williams, executive director of sales for CIBC Asset Management, will continue to lead their respective teams, and will report to Geist.
