The board of directors of Ottawa-based Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada (CMC) has a new president and chairman in Doug Potentier.
Potentier, who was previously vice chairman of CMC, was elected to the position on Dec. 2 following the appointment of the association’s former president, Lucie Moncion, to the Senate of Canada, according to an announcement released Monday.
“I’m honored and pleased to accept the leadership of CMC as we approach 2017, a momentous year in Canada and full of potential for the sector and for our organization” says Potentier, in a statement. “Canada’s 150th [anniversary] will cause all Canadians to reflect on how Canada has developed and co-operatives and mutuals are a significant part of what built our country since even before confederation.”
The CMC has also announced that Mark Needham, previously a director at the association, will now fill the role of vice-president. The association’s board will not fill that particular director role until June 2017.
Co-operatives and Mutuals Canada is the national association for co-operatives and mutuals with members from sectors that include finance, insurance, agri-food and supply, housing and health.
