Eric Lascelles will assume the role of chief economist at RBC Global Asset Management effective February 7, RBC GAM said Monday.
“We are very pleased to have Eric join our team. We are committed to building on our forecasting capabilities, and providing thought leading, accurate and timely advice to our clients. Eric’s appointment is testament to that,” says Dan Chornous, chief investment officer, RBC GAM.
“Eric will maintain the firm’s global economic forecast and help shape our views on interest rates, currencies, corporate profits and valuations. He will also become a member of the RBC investment strategy committee and will be active in keeping our clients informed through ongoing communications with members of the media,” adds Chornous.
Lascelles joins RBC GAM from TD Securities, where he was chief Canada macro strategist. A vice president and director at TD, Eric managed a team of economists and bond strategists on the trading floor. He took a lead role in formulating strategy regarding the Bank of Canada and U.S. Federal Reserve Board. He also communicated economic and market views to clients as a frequent commentator in the media.
In previous roles, Lascelles served as a senior fixed income strategist at TD Securities, an economist at TD Bank and a research economist at Statistics Canada in the Business and Labour Market Analysis Division. He began his career at Goldman Sachs in New York.
Lascelles holds a B.A. in Economics with minors in both Finance and Computer Science from Princeton University and a Master’s degree in Economics from Queen’s University.
