Robert McCullagh has been elected as chair of the board of directors of Advocis, The Financial Advisors Association of Canada.

Advocis members elected a new slate of directors for their 2011 board at their annual general meeting, held in Toronto on December 6.

“I am proud and honoured to have the confidence of the Advocis membership,” said McCullagh, in a release. “I know that next year will have its challenges but I also know that with challenge comes opportunity.”

McCullagh has been in the financial services industry for more than 20 years. During that time, he has been teaching and volunteering as well as building a successful practice that focuses on families and individuals along with small- and medium-sized business owners. His practice work involves wills and estate planning, powers of attorney, trusts, tax planning strategies, divorce and separation planning, risk management and investment information, and preparation of comprehensive financial plans.

McCullagh has been teaching industry-related courses at colleges and universities in and around his hometown of Calgary since 1997. An active member of Advocis since 1989, McCullagh has held several positions in Advocis’ Calgary chapter, including president in 2004. He is a past chair of the Advocis Banff School and a member of the Million Dollar Round Table.
