The Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants (CICA) has named Bill MacKinnon as its new vice chairman. His appointment will take effect in September.

“The board is looking forward to having Bill MacKinnon bring his extensive professional experience to the role of vice chair,” said Alain Benedetti, CICA board chairman, in a release. “The knowledge gained throughout his career certainly positions Bill to play a vital role in helping the profession face any challenges that lie ahead.”

For the past nine years, MacKinnon has fulfilled the role of CEO with KPMG Canada.

Originally from Winnipeg, Manitoba, he completed his B. Comm. Honours degree at the University of Manitoba in 1967, achieved his CA designation in 1971 and was appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario in 1994.

Since becoming a partner at KPMG in 1977, MacKinnon has been the engagement partner for a number of major accounts. He presently is the client relationship partner for accounts such as the Bank of Nova Scotia, Rogers Communications Inc., Celestica Inc. and ONEX Inc.

MacKinnon’s two-year term will commence following the annual General meeting to be held in September.
