James Beattie has departed as CEO of Richmond Hill, Ont.-based Global Maxfin Capital Inc. and Global Maxfin Investments Inc. after less than a year on the job.
Investment Executive learned late on Wednesday that Beattie was no longer with the company. Beattie was appointed as CEO on Jan. 5, replacing Sam Bouji, Global Maxfin’s founder and chairman, who was suspended by the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) in 2014.
An industry veteran of more than 27 years, Beattie has worked with Bank of Montreal Asset Management (formerly BMOIC) along with other large financial services institutions, including RBC Capital Markets, as managing director and head of institutional equity trading, and CIBC World Markets, as managing director, global head of equities trading. Beattie has also served as past president and chairman of the Canadian Securities Traders Association and the Institutional Equity Traders Association.
Global Maxfin Investments declined to comment on the reason for Beattie’s departure or who his successor will be.
