Kevin Gopaul is the new president and chief investment officer at REX Financial Canada. He was global head of ETFs at BMO Global Asset Management until August 2023.

“It’s an incredible opportunity to work alongside a group of proven leaders in the U.S. ETF market, which continues to experience tremendous growth,” Gopaul said in a social media post.

Gopaul joined BMO in April 2009 to help launch its ETF business, and steered it through a period of explosive growth. Prior to joining BMO, he was a portfolio manager with Barclays Global Investors.

In the last year, Gopaul was special advisor to Calgary-based alternative investment manager Accelerate Financial Technologies Inc. to provide alternative ETFs.

Other industry moves

  • Laurentian Bank has announced adjustment in the titles and duties of four executive team members. Executive vice president of commercial banking Thierry Langevin has been appointed group head of personal and commercial banking, a move that groups banking services under one leader. Head of strategy and transformation Marie-Christine Custeau will add digital experience and payments to her responsibilities to consolidate the bank’s digital transformation efforts. Macha Pohu, formerly the chief human resources officer is now head of human resources and corporate affairs, reflecting the addition of corporate and legal affairs to her purview. Executive vice president and chief risk officer Christian De Broux will additionally oversee the company’s compliance teams to integrate the oversight of risk management and compliance.
  • Jessica Tan will succeed Jacques Goulet as president of Sun Life Canada. Tan was recently co-CEO of Chinese insurer Ping An, one of Asia’s largest insurers. Goulet will continue with the company in his new role as executive chair of Sun Life Canada.
  • Forthlane Partners Ltd. has appointed Robbie Pryde as its new CEO. Pryde was a founding partner at investment dealer Newcrest Capital, which was sold to TD for $224M in 2000. He then ran TD Securities‘s investment and corporate banking and global equities for over 20 years. Robert Vanderhooft also joined as Forthlane’s co-Chief Investment Officer and will work with founding CIO Wayne Kozun. Vanderhoof was recently the CIO at TD Asset Management.
  • John Comerford has joined TD Securities as managing director and head of quantitative strategy. He was formerly the head of global product, strategy and equities at Credit Suisse where he led product strategy for algorithmic and quantitative trading.
