Each week, we summarizes notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Richardson Wealth has brought on two new advisor teams: Simpson and Partners in its Pointe-Claire, Que. branch, and Riddell Wealth Management in its Victoria office. Simpson and Partners — which includes investment advisor Edward Simpson and associate investment advisor Michael Green, as well as a team that focuses on tax and estate planning — came from Mandeville Private Client Inc. The members of Riddell Wealth, led by wealth and investment advisor Evan Riddell, moved over from IG Wealth Management.
  • John H. Bai, a financial services veteran with three decades of experience, is joining Aviso Wealth Inc. as chief financial officer (CFO). His time in the industry includes senior positions within Royal Bank of Canada as well as a vice-president position with Fiera Capital Corp. Bai succeeds Rod Ancrum, senior vice-president, CFO and chief administrative officer, who is retiring at the end of this year. Ancrum’s CAO responsibilities have been “divided up between members of the leadership team,” said a company spokesperson. The firm also confirmed the incoming John Bai will work alongside Aviso’s chief investment officer — another John Bai — who’s been with the company since 2019.
  • Taylor Pidgeon is now vice-president for defined contribution in Canada with T. Rowe Price (Canada) Inc. He’ll work out of Toronto and report to Lauren Bloom, T. Rowe Price’s head of Canada, and he most recently worked as as institutional relationship director with MFS Investment Management Ltd. Canada. In his new role, he’ll grow and support the firm’s retirement savings clients, which include consulting firms, field consultants, advisors and plan sponsors, a release said.
  • The Financial Services Regulatory Authority of Ontario (FSRA) has added new members to its stakeholder advisory committees (SAC) for the 2024-2026 term. The SAC for Life & Health insurance and the SAC for Financial Planners and Financial Advisors were among the groups that received new members for two-year terms. The insurance committee welcomed Andrew Fitzpatrick, assistant vice-president with Canada Life; Shawna Sykes, vice-president of compliance with Co-operators; and Dean Chambers, vice-president, individual insurance, with Wawanesa Insurance. The planners and advisors group brought on Justin Warren, vice-president of member services and business development with CIFPs; Sarah Smith, a director with e-learning provider We Know Training; Kenneth Doll with the Independent Financial Brokers of Canada; and Amin Mawani with Schulich School of Business, York University.
