Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • Kish Kapoor, who’s officially been president and CEO of RF Capital Group since 2020, will step out of that role on Oct. 1. He’ll continue to serve on the boards of RF Capital Group Inc. and Richardson Financial Group Ltd., making way for current chief operating officer Dave Kelly to lead RF Capital. Kapoor is an industry veteran with several decades of experience. He helped found Assante Corporation in the 1990s, was a president with Wellington West Holdings Inc. for nearly six years, and has been a key player in shaping what is now Richardson Wealth Ltd. for the past decade. Read more about the move.
  • Marcus Chun is now head of digital strategies and advisor services at Richardson Wealth, replacing Scott Stennett in the role. Stennett is now vice-chair with the firm. Chun comes from BMO Private Wealth, where he worked for the past three years and served as a vice-president and managing director, and led strategic management and initiatives. He’s worked in the industry for nearly 20 years, with part of that time spent at RBC Wealth Management. His predecessor, Stennett, has been in the industry for three decades and has worked with Richardson Wealth “since Day One,” said Richardson Wealth’s outgoing president and CEO Kish Kapoor in a release. Kapoor noted that Stennett will support Chun in the transition, subsequently shifting focus to “corporate development activities” that involve understanding the competition and finding “acquisition opportunities.” He’s tasked Chun with improving the firm’s processes and architecture, a key piece in helping the company achieve goals that have been tagged as ambitious.
  • Edward Goodfellow, an associate portfolio manager and author, has joined Raymond James Ltd. in Victoria alongside his associate Paolina McDonough. He comes from Vancouver-based Ventum Financial Corp. (formerly PI Financial Corp.), where he worked for more than 10 years. The pair left their previous firm in mid-July.
  • Patrick Cronin and Stacey Madge joined the Sun Life Financial Inc. board of directors on July 31. Cronin has worked in the industry for 30 years, a release said, with much of that time spent working with the Bank of Montreal. He was most recently special advisor to the CEO for BMO Financial Group but also has worked with BMO Capital Markets. Madge also has decades of experience in the financial space, which has included senior roles with companies like Visa Canada and Scotiabank. She’s been focusing on advisory work in retirement, the release said, and her skillset includes “digital transformation expertise.”
  • Andrew Forson has joined the board of directors of financial technology company DeFi Technologies Inc. He works as head of ventures and investments with the Hashgraph Group (based in Switzerland).
