Each week, we summarize notable moves across the financial industry.

  • The Canada Pension Plan Investment Board named Priti Singh senior managing director and chief risk officer (CRO), while Heather Tobin was named senior managing director and global head of capital markets and factor investing. Singh replaces Kristen Walters, who began the CRO role in 2023 and is leaving to move closer to home, a release said. Singh has worked for CPP Investments for more than 15 years, and Tobin succeeds Singh after having worked with the organization for more than a decade. 
  • Rosy Shang, senior wealth advisor, joined National Bank Financial Wealth Management in Vancouver. She comes from TD Wealth Private Investment Advice with her wealth associate, Torrance Yu.
  • Four people have joined IG Wealth Management’s Chris Garofalo to form a new group, Garofalo Donato & Associates Private Wealth Management. The four professionals, coming from CI Assante Wealth Management, are Paul and Andrea Donato, Stephanie Carbonneau and Charles Boudreau. Garofalo previously led Garofalo & Associates Private Wealth Management, while Paul Donato was the leader of the former CI Assante group and focused on high-net-worth families. Boudreau is newest to the industry, having joined in 2021, while the others have decades of experience.
  • Nilesh Patel recently became head of distribution, Canada, with Toronto-based First Trust Portfolios Canada. The company confirmed in an emailed statement that Patel replaces Karl Cheong, who left in November 2023 to pursue other goals. Patel is “primarily focused on developing sales within our organization,” the new statement said.
  • Michael Lynn, a private wealth manager coming from Bank of Montreal, has joined Toronto-based Foundation Wealth Partners. The company said in a release that Lynn is leading its expansion into the Thompson Okanagan region of British Columbia and will work out of Kamloops.
  • Fintechs Canada, a group established in 2019, added seven directors to its 2024-2025 board last week. They included Jessica Oliver, head of government and regulatory relations with Wealthsimple, and Andrew Graham, co-founder and CEO of Borrowell.
  • Henri-Paul Rousseau has been appointed personal representative of the Premier of Quebec for the Francophonie, as well as Quebec delegate-general in Paris. Rousseau, an associate professor with the HEC Montréal’s Retirement and Savings Institute, was president and CEO of the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec from 2002 to 2008, and vice-chairman of Power Corp. of Canada from 2009 to 2017.
