Dave Hare was elected president of the Insurance Brokers Association of Ontario on October 20, 2004 at IBAO’s 84th annual convention in Toronto.
While still a high school student, Dave began his insurance career working in the family brokerage. In 1968, he moved to Toronto and became a student accident underwriter, but decided to leave the industry to pursue a career in music. He joined the family firm of Petley-Hare Limited in 1971, and in 1976, he completed his associateship studies becoming President of Petley-Hare Ltd. that same year.
Prior to becoming Director of Territory 11 of IBAO in 1996, Hare was active in the Durham Region affiliate having served as president for two, two-year terms, the first in 1986. While he was president, Durham Region received the affiliate achievement award.
Dave is active in his community and was founding Chairman of the Rotary TV Auction and served as president of the Rotary Club of Oshawa. In addition, he has served on various boards and fundraising organizations including the Oshawa General Hospital “Setting the Pace” campaign, the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the downtown Oshawa business improvement area, United Way, and the Parkwood Foundation. He is also also a director of the Whitby Dunlops Senior A Hockey Club.
IBAO represents over 9,400 independent property and casualty insurance brokers throughout Ontario.
