HSBC Global Asset Management has appointed University of British Columbia educated Mandy Chan as investment director of Halbis, its active fundamental investment specialist, effective December 1.
Reporting to Ayaz Ebrahim, CEO of Halbis, Asia-Pacific, Chan will join the Chinese investment team to manage Chinese equities.
Rudolf Apenbrink, CEO of HSBC Global Asset Management, Asia-Pacific, stated: “HSBC Global Asset Management is a leader in emerging markets with Chinese equities as one of the core capabilities. The firm has more than US$7.5 billion of assets under management in Chinese equities from a wide range of products using different investment strategies. The appointment of Mandy is part of a global strategy to expand our Chinese investment capability.”
Chan has 12 years of asset management experience. Prior to joining HSBC, she worked for Fortis Investment Management (acquired by BNP Paribas Group) as chief investment officer for Greater China equities and was responsible for managing various mainland China and Hong Kong investment portfolios for five years.
Before that, Chan was a senior investment analyst at Pacific Century Insurance Investment Management Ltd. managing absolute return products. She has also spent three years in Canada managing investment portfolios at TD Asset Management Ltd.
Chan graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of British Columbia, and is a Certified Financial Analyst charterholder.
