Joseph Dickstein, past president and director of insurance agency PPI Financial Group (Eastern) and past vice chairman of PPI Financial Group, died on Aug. 12 at the age of 90.

A veteran of the insurance space, Dickstein ran an agency at Crown Life before founding Westmount Life Insurance Co. Later, as president of Dickstein Insurance Agency, he joined Prairie Pacific Insurance and co-founded PPI.

“It is impossible to describe what Joe means to PPI,” Jim Burton, executive chairman and CEO of PPI, wrote in an Aug. 14 bulletin. “His vision, intelligence, generosity, compassion, commitment and integrity helped build this company.”

Burton described Dickstein as a “trusted and valued partner for more than 30 years.”

Dickstein retired from PPI in 2013 at the age of 83, but remained a “source of inspiration” for the company, Burton added.

“Joe was no ordinary Joe,” Burton wrote. “We are deeply saddened by his passing, but we are also deeply grateful for the memories he leaves us with and for the honour to have had Joe touch our lives.”
