A former U.S. Federal Reserve Board governor is joining the board of the U.S securities industry self-regulatory organization, the Washington, D.C.-based Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
Charles Plosser, former president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, was named a public governor by FINRA on Thursday. Plosser retired as head of the Philly Fed earlier this year.
Prior to joining the bank, Plosser was a professor of economics and public policy, and served as dean at the University of Rochester from 1993 to 2003. He is also a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), and he has served as a consultant to numerous corporations.
FINRA’s 24-person board of governors includes 13 public governors, 10 industry governors, and FINRA’s CEO. Governors are appointed or elected to three-year terms and may not serve more than two consecutive terms.
