Securities lawyer Blair Wiley has joined Wealthsimple as its general counsel and head of regulatory affairs.

Wiley, who announced his new role in a tweet, had been a partner at Osler, Hoskin & Harcourt LLP since March 2016. His expertise is in corporate and securities law, particularly as it relates to trading securities and derivatives. He joined Osler in May 2006, and in 2011, was seconded to the Canadian Securities Transition Office “where he contributed to the development of harmonized derivatives regulations for a proposed national securities regulator,” said an Osler release from last year.

Wiley has also been a member of the Ontario Securities Commission’s Securities Advisory Committee since January 2018. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School, York University.
