Dean Connor, president and CEO of Toronto-based Sun Life Financial Inc., has been elected as chairman of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Association Inc. (CLHIA), the association announced on Tuesday.
Connor joined Sun Life in 2006 and was appointed president and CEO on Dec. 1, 2011. He is also a member of Sun Life’s board of directors.
Connor takes over from Mary Forrest, president and CEO, North America (Life) at Munich Reinsurance Co., who was elected as CLHIA’s chairwoman in June 2015.
Other past chairmen include Doug Brooks, president and CEO of ivari (previously Transamerica Life Canada), and Donald Guloien, president and CEO of Manulife Financial Corp.
Connor is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and the Canadian Institute of Actuaries. He holds an Honours Business Administration (HBA) from the Ivey School of Business at Western University.
Connor currently serves on the Ivey Advisory Board and as a Trustee for the University Health Network in Toronto.
CLHIA is a voluntary industry association. Its member companies account for 99% of Canada’s life and health insurance business.
