Toronto-based credit rating agency DBRS Ltd. on Wednesday announced the appointment of veteran investment banker Douglas Turnbull as vice chairman and country head, Canada.
In this newly created position, Turnbull will oversee day-to-day operations of DBRS in Canada. He will also be involved in the strategic development of the firm’s rating business and will conduct senior outreach activities for the company.
Turnbull has more than 36 years of experience in the investment banking industry, most recently as deputy chairman of TD Securities Inc. (TDSI). Prior to that, he was global head of government relations at TDSI. He joined TD from BMO Nesbitt Burns in 2005, where he was involved with government-related debt and infrastructure financings.
“I believe that our experience and perspective as a Canadian-based rating agency provides a unique opportunity to enhance our business around the world,” says Turnbull in a statement.
“Canada is our home market and we want to ensure we are doing everything we can to meet the needs of our Canadian customers,” adds Dan Curry, CEO of DBRS.
