Donald Guloien, president and CEO of Manulife Financial Corp. has been elected chairman of the Canadian Life and Health Insurance Inc. (CLHIA).
The industry trade association announced the election of Guloien Wednesday. He succeeds Doug Brooks of Transamerica Life Canada.
Before being appointed to head Manulife in 2009, Guloien was the insurer’s chief investment officer. He has been with the firm for 33 years.
In addition to his role at Manulife, and now the CLHIA, Guloien is also a member of the Mayor of Shanghai’s International Business Leaders’ Advisory Council, the Canadian Council of Chief Executives, and the World Presidents’ Organization.
Additionally, he is a member of the Campaign Cabinet for the Rotman School of Management at the University of Toronto. He has previously been on the board of the Children’s Aid Society Foundation, ThinkFirst Foundation of Canada, and LIMRA International.
