It’s not every day that a hockey game reaches a score of 74-83, but the match at Montreal’s Bell Centre has done just that, and it’s less than halfway over.

In an effort to raise money for two children’s foundations — Starlight Children’s Foundation Canada and Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation — CIBC Wood Gundy is sponsoring what they hope to be the longest hockey game in history. On Sunday night, 40 amateur hockey players, many from the financial services industry, suited up for a game set to last for 54 hours of continuous play. If all goes as planned, they’ll raise a total of $100,000 and set a new Guinness World Record (the current record stands at 52 hours).

Players are taking turns in the 3-day game, rotating in 4-hour shifts as required by the Guinness World Records.

Those interested can witness the event at the Bell Centre, which will be open to the pubic (via the Cage aux Sports) at the following times: Monday, December 9 and Tuesday December 10, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

All donations are greatly appreciated on site or by calling (514) 288-9474. Charitable receipts will be issued for donations over $20.
