Cary List, president and CEO of the Toronto-based Financial Planning Standards Council (FPSC), has won the Washington, D.C.-based Institute for Credentialing Excellence’s (ICE) Credentialing Industry Leadership Award, FPSC announced Friday.

The award recognizes an innovative leader in the credentialing and/or licensure industry.

“List has dedicated much of his career to promoting the important role of credentialing in ensuring financial planners meet high standards of proficiency, ethics and professionalism in serving their clients,” FPSC says in a news release. List has been at the helm of FPSC, the certification and standards-setting body that grants the certified financial planner designation, for the past 12 years.

List served six years on the ICE’s board, including as the president in 2012. He currently serves on ICE’s Accreditation Services Council.

“Certification programs play such an important role in ensuring quality practice in many professions. ICE has been, and continues to be, such an excellent organization for sharing common issues for learning from peers in the certification industry, across multiple professions,” List says in a statement. “It’s been a great pleasure to give back to ICE over the years, as I have learned so much being a part of this community, and it’s a great honour to be recognized by my peers for those contributions.”
