The Canadian Coalition for Good Governance has named Doug Pearce as its new chairman.
Pearce becomes the second chairman in the Coalition;s three-year history, replacing Michael Wilson who left to become Canada’s ambassador to the United States.
Pearce brings a wealth of experience to his new position. He is the CEO and chief investment officer of the British Columbia Investment Management Corp., the organization responsible for the investment of public-sector pension funds, sinking funds and other trust funds for the province of B.C.
“The Coalition has made great strides in working with regulators, exchanges, educational institutions and corporations to improve the overall condition of corporate governance in Canada,” said Pearce, in a release.
Pearce is also chairman of the Pacific Pension Institute based in San Francisco and a past director and chairman of the Pension Investment Association of Canada. He is a member of the Faculty Advisory Board of the University of British Columbia Sauder School of Business, and a member of the business council for the Global Asset and Wealth Management program of Simon Fraser University.
The Canadian Coalition for Good Governance is made up of 46 of Canada’s leading institutional investors with representing more than $900 billion in assets under management. The mission of the Coalition is to represent Canadian institutional shareholders through the promotion of best corporate governance practices and to align the interests of boards and management with those of the shareholder.
