BNP Paribas Asset Management (BNPAM), the investment arm of French bank BNP Paribas SA, has named Jane Ambachtsheer as its new global head of sustainability, the company announced Friday.

Ambachtsheer, who will be based in Paris, will be responsible for the company’s overall approach to sustainability.

Among other things, she will help lead the firm’s sustainability-related research, environmental social and governance (ESG) integration, engagement, and advocacy and governance. She will also manage the firm’s corporate social responsibility efforts.

Ambachtsheer joins BNPAM from Mercer, a unit of Marsh & McLennan Cos. Inc. where she was a partner and chairwoman of responsible investment.

In addition, she has consulted with the United Nations on the development of its principles for responsible investment (PRI), serves as a trustee of the Carbon Disclosure Project, sits on the Financial Stability Board’s Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures, and is a member of the PRI Academic Working Group. She is also an adjunct professor at the University of Toronto, and a research affiliate at the University Oxford Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment.

“As a seasoned professional who is recognised globally as a leading influencer in responsible investment, Jane adds outstanding expertise to a central pillar of BNPAM’s strategy,” says Frédéric Janbon, CEO and head of investments, in a statement “While we continue to strengthen our commitment to long-term investing, as well as acting as a responsible firm, having Jane on board will definitely accelerate the path to achieving our goals as a leading player in sustainable finance.”
