BMO Capital Markets will open trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange Wednesday to mark the launch of Equity Through Education, an annual charitable trading day to help Canadians turn their academic goals into a reality.
BMO Capital Markets is proud to once again donate all of the North American institutional equity commissions earned tomorrow to support nine organizations in Canada and the U.S. that seek to improve access to education and training for people across all diversity groups.
Now in its fifth year, Equity Through Education has raised a total of $6.6 million dollars, assisting more than 2,000 individuals who have directly benefited through scholarships, bursaries and other educational programs, BMO Capital Markets says.
“The people ETE supports, clearly have the ambition to succeed,” says Mike Miller, head of equity products, BMO Capital Markets and campaign chair of the special trading day. “Our goal is to help change lives and remove the barriers, where we can that prevent those talented individuals from reaching their full potential.”
Miller along with Toronto FC Captain Jim Brennan and several ETE scholar recipients will open the market at the TSX Wendesday to celebrate the launch of the ETE trading day.
“TSX is pleased to welcome BMO Capital Markets and we are proud to support this very worthwhile initiative,” says Robert Fortheringham, Senior Vice President, Trading, TSX Markets, who will be hosting the market open ceremony.
The nine charities that BMO Capital Markets supports through Equity Through Education are:
• Canadian Merit Scholarship Foundation (CMSF);
• The Financial Women’s Association;
• Foundation for the Advancement of Aboriginal Youth (FAAY);
• The Jackie Robinson Foundation;
• National Aboriginal Achievement Foundation;
• The National Educational Association of Disabled Students (NEADS);
• The Pathways to Education Program;
• YAI / National Institute for People With Disabilities Network; and
• Youth in Motion’s Top 20 Under 20 Program.
