Veteran investment banker Line Rivard has been appointed a special advisor to the Bank of Canada on financial system issues, particularly the links between the financial system and the corporate sector.

The bank announced that Rivard, whose appointment takes effect February 5, will advise the governing council on a range of financial system issues.

“In particular, she will lead an examination of the role of the financial system in supporting the building of new economic capacity,” it says.

“Line’s deep knowledge of corporate finance and years of private-sector experience will help the bank better understand the linkages between the financial system and the corporate sector in Canada,” said Bank of Canada governor, Stephen Poloz.

Rivard has more than 20 years of experience in investment banking and corporate finance, most recently as managing director at BMO Capital Markets.

She hails from Quebec City and is now based in Montreal. Rivard currently sits on various boards, including Ivanhoe Cambridge and Metro Inc.

The position of special advisor was created in 1998 to bring outside perspectives to the central bank’s core policy functions and research priorities.
